Marriage Licenses

Requirements for a marriage license to be issued in Burt County.

  1. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. You cannot marry in Nebraska if you are under 17. 
  2. Parental consent is required for applicants who are 17 or 18 years of age.  The parental consent forms are available at the link above.
  3. Two forms of identification will be required in Burt County.  Your Driver’s License (or other PHOTO ID) AND  a Birth Certificate with a raised seal.
  4. Provide the full names and birthplaces of the Groom / Party A and Bride / Party B.
  5. Provide the full names and birthplaces of both parents.  (including maiden names)
  6. The applicants shall provide their Social Security Numbers, if they have one. 
  7. If there was a previous marriage, we will need to know the date the marriage ended.  (Date of divorce decree or date of death).
  8. No blood test is required.
  9. Marriage Licenses are good for one year from the date of issuance.  Therefore, they have to be married within that year or they need to apply again.
  10. A couple may apply for their license in any county in Nebraska and use it to be married in any Nebraska county.

To be married by the County Court Magistrate you may call the County Court to schedule an appointment.

You may make application for a Marriage License at the County Clerk’s office, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fees – Burt County Clerk’s office requires cash or check.

  • The fee for a marriage license is $25.00.
  • A Certified Copy of a Marriage Record is $9.00.

To receive a certified marriage license you will need to send the following information and a $9.00 check or money order:

  • Name of groom / Party A
  • Name of bride / Party B (including maiden name)
  • Month, day and year of marriage

(You must have received your marriage license in the County for us to send you a certified copy.)
